Beware not to do it wrong on Google Images
If you are one of the people that always use images from Google on projects, blogs and others, we are here to inform you that what you are doing is wrong.
Many images you found on search engine like Google Images are licensed and copyrighted by their owners. Therefore, it is considered illegal to use those images for your personal usage without asking for their permission. You can gain permission not only by knowing the owner but also by purchasing these images online from websites like Shutterstock.com, istockphoto.com or smugmug.com etc. However, let’s take this honestly, how many people do you think want to spend money purchasing images online? This is especially when they only need it for an assignment or class work. Hmm…
Now you may have a thought, ‘then how can I make sure that I won’t get in to trouble by using these images on my blog or projects?’ Hi Tech-Duo is here to tell you good news that you might never heard of it before. Google offers an Advanced Search option that will help you filter which photos are royalty free or licensed, so that you can freely use it without worries of plagiarism.
For example, I'm looking for a 'Galaxy' image for my science project.
1. Go to Google Images, type 'galaxy' and click enter. Then notice your right corner on top of the Google menu bar. You will see a gear icon.
2. Click the gear icon then you'll see 'Advanced Search.' Click on it.
3. This similar page will appear in front of you. Notice the heading, 'Then narrow your results by...' and scroll down.
4. After you scrolled down, you will see the sub-heading, 'Usage Rights.' Then choose the option that suits your best.
5. Go back to Google Images page. You'll see the Advanced search menu bar where you again can re-select your option. Now you can choose images you like for the project, blog or website etc. without worries of plagiarism.
